Chelsea Physic Garden
Established in 1673, Chelsea Physic Garden’s plant collection is focused entirely on medicinal, herbal and useful plants. We were appointed as part of a team with Skellon Studio to develop a masterplan for Chelsea Physic Garden’s Glasshouse Restoration project, supported by the NLHF. We worked closely with CPG providing new interpretation that aims to engage new and non-traditional visitors by bringing stories of the plants to life in a coherent way as well as promoting understanding of the uses of plants.
An extension of this work, we were asked to continue the interpretation throughout the entire garden. The resulting scheme used a mixture of Tricoya and steel panels, many which need to be easily moved by the gardeners. We kept the design really pared back, using line drawings to illustrate stories and photography only where it was essential to show how a plant looked in flower during out of season times. Exterior fabrication and print by Displayways.
